Recovery

The Recovery Subteam is responsible for the successful retrieval of the rocket. It is tasked with designing and creating parachutes and ensuring parachute deployment during flight occurs without issue.

SA Cup Parachutes

The Recovery Sub team has been sewing our own custom parachutes for years and has been continuously improving our designs and processes. In the 2023-24 SA Cup competition, our Main used an Extended Skirt design and Drogue parachute used a Disk-Gap-Band design. For this year's competition, we will be using a new parachute design for our Drogue and Main.

Deployment

For the 2024 SA Cup recovery systems, there we had a traditional dual bay dual deployment architecture. Our 2024 High Alt Rocket was a two-stage, dual-deployment configuration. To separate the rocket, we use black powder ejection charges connected to commercial altimeters.
